Dragon Boat Festival Air Travel Carries on 'May Day' Momentum w/ Surge in Bookings/ Prices; Cross-border Ticket Bookings Up 19%

As the Dragon Boat Festival is around the corner, this year's travel market is showing a unique rhythm between the May Day travel boom and the summer peak season. Most travelers, influenced by factors like the holiday duration and the upcoming college entrance exams, are opting for local getaways, yet the cross-border travel market is still seeing plenty of highlights. Sustaining the momentum that occurred during the May Day holiday, airfare prices remain hot with YoY growth. According to Trip.com's recently released 2025 Dragon Boat Festival travel trend forecast, domestic local travel bookings for this year's holiday are expected to grow by 23% YoY, reflecting steady overall market growth. In terms of air ticket bookings, data from Umetrip.com showed that as of May 27, domestic flight bookings for the Dragon Boat Festival have swelled slightly YoY to over 2.93 million. Meanwhile, cross-border flight bookings for the holiday have also exceeded 620,000, up about 19% YoY. In terms of ticket prices, as of May 29, the average domestic economy class ticket price for the 2025 Dragon Boat Festival holiday was RMB589 (excluding tax), representing a YoY rise of 6.56%, but a decrease of 3.63% compared to 2019, data from Flight Master indicated.
