The explosive surge in demand and the precipitous shortage in production capacity have been widening the global memory market gap and elevating memory chip prices since September 2025, the Price Monitoring Center of China's National Development and Reform Commission said in an article.

Seeing that the pace of increase had even accelerated over the past month, the Price Monitoring Center recommended paying close attention to the impact of memory chip prices on downstream costs.

According to research results, as of January 2026, prices for the two main types of memory chips, DRAM and NAND flash, had reached their highest levels since data became available in 2016.

Currently, major computer manufacturers such as LENOVO GROUP (00992.HK), Dell, and HP have issued price adjustment notices, with increases generally ranging from RMB500 to RMB1,500. New Chinese-made models with the same storage configurations from XIAOMI-W (01810.HK) and vivo have also seen price hikes of RMB300-500 compared to the previous generation.
